Recently, I found a name for my game. I discussed it briefly in my previous article.
Obviously, the first thing I wanted to do afterwards was create a logo. Now that the name is established and that my lore has somewhat taken shape in my head, I am able to start building a visual identity for this project. As such the logo is a very important step of it. After all, it is the first think people might see of your game.
Anyway, long story short, here it is:
The lantern is a recurring theme of the game I planned on using for a long time. I like the light aura surrounding it and I managed to create a discrete halo effect to highlight it. I made a few first iterations which I posted on my reddit account to get some feedback. Do not hesitate to tell me what you think about it in the comments. A really interesting piece of advice I got was that removing the inner white outline would make it as if the lantern had a glass window. (see the post to understand what I'm talking about (and drop an upvote ❤️)) I pushed the idea further and added a layer of semi-opaque black to mimic this glass. However, now that I see it on this dark background, I feel like this is standing out enough.
At first, I wanted to take inspiration from Moonlighter's logo:
I wanted to have a peasant or a knight, seen from behind, holding a lantern and about to be submerged by a dark wave. However, decerning the silhouette of the peasant was not obvious and again, as I mentioned when discussing names, I didn't want to emphasise the troops.
Thank you for reading to the end! I hope to see you in the next post. 🦦
